Mel Fisher Days July 10-13
This annual celebration brings together Mel Fisher fans and treasure-hunting enthusiasts in a celebration of the anniversary of Fisher's discovery of the shipwrecked Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Atocha. Fisher and his crew uncovered a $450 million cache of Atocha treasure and artifacts in July 1985 after a 16-year search. The galleon sank approximately 35 miles southwest of Key West during a 1622 hurricane. Fisher's son Kim Fisher leads the continuing search for Atocha artifacts and treasures that still remain undiscovered. Festival highlights include a dock party with the salvage crew, behind-the-scenes tours of the Fisher family's private artifact conservation lab, a team treasure hunt and a rollicking street party that recalls Mel's exuberant spirit.
