The Key West Songwriters Fest

The Key West Songwriters Festival is not only unique and entertaining, it is a fabulous plunge into the culture of musicians and songwriters; their talent, commitment and passion. Celebrating its 17th year, The Key West Songwriters Festival 2012, is the largest festival of its kind in the world. Since 1997 the festival has grown into both a tourist attraction and a favorite event of island locals. The festival revolves around five days and nights of more than 20 free shows, staged at an array of the island's most popular drinking holes and hot spots, where live music bliss introduces crowds to the faces, voices and stories behind the songs. Diverse lineups featuring more than 100 top songwriters deliver rare, "Key West-only" moments: Informal adaptations of Nashville's signature in-the-round acoustic showcases dominate much of the schedule topped off with a street concert to rock the island. Its a party that can't be missed! Festival Dates: Wed May 2-Sunday to May 6th. The Conch Republic Battle for Independence

Join forces this Friday, April 27th to help the Conch Republic stand their ground against the the US Border Patrol in the annual mock battle of the Conch Republic.  Load up on ammunition (wet Cuban bread) and suit up in your fatigues (rain gear) and head down to the harbor to join in the revelry.  The harbor will be filled with boats of all shapes and sizes, who will toss rotten food at each other and those on the sidelines, in a grand re-enactment of our succession from the the Union in the 1980's. Just another event proving the zany and fun loving lifestyle of the locals, there is truly no event like it anywhere else in the world.  The Key West Harbor is the place to be, and all able bodies are commanded to meet a 6pm to watch the fun begin.  After the battle make your war-weary way to Schooner Wharf Bar for the Victory Party and Surrender Ceremony at 9pm. Music by Homemade Wine, one of the hottest up-and-coming bands, will play the night away and a Margarita never tasted so good after a day on the front lines.  For more information and Conch Republic Celebration events visit http://conchrepublic.com/schedule.htm.
